Overseas Conversion Licence Notes

Hand position - Don’t twist your hands when turning.
More searching - recheck center mirror before braking. Check all side streets.
Blindspot Checks - If moving left or right check next to you before moving.
Braking and Speed control - cover your brake before braking, don’t brake hard.
Lane changing and merging - nothing sudden.
Curbside parking - must check left blindspot and vehicle must be under 30cm from the curb.
Dual lane right turn - must stay in your lane.
Downhill speed control - cover your brake, stay under the speed limit.
Trucks and Buses - Double your following and stopping distance.
Ped Crossing - check both side and center mirror before moving through.

Merging / Lane Changing / Turning Bays:

Always signal and check blind spots before changing lanes.
Avoid sudden movements and maintain signals until completely in the other lane.

Vehicle Position:

Keep to the left more than to the right.

Right Turns:

Find the center before turning, without rushing or cutting corners.

Left Turns:

Angle the car appropriately before turning and stay within the lane.
Ensure clear visibility of at least 100 meters on each side.

Center Mirror Usage:

Check the center mirror every 10-15 seconds on straight roads.
Also, check the mirror before braking.

Narrow Roads:

Anticipate bottlenecks, keep left, and signal to pass parked cars.

Blindspot Checks:

Check left blind spot when moving left and right blind spot when moving right.

Parallel Parking:

Signal left and check center mirror before stopping.
Utilize available space behind and recheck the right blind spot before moving.
Engage the correct gear before proceeding.

U-Turns:

Signal right and check the right blind spot.
Maintain left position while executing the turn.

Turning Bays and Flush Medians:

Utilize them without disrupting traffic flow.
Merge in and out when necessary, and confidently navigate through them.

Gears:

Shift to 3rd gear after turning; avoid staying in 2nd gear.
Use 3rd gear when exceeding 40 km/h.

Key Points:

Exiting Carpark - Keep left and stay in your lane.

Merging / Lane Changing - Must indicate when needed and always check your blindspot. Don't move suddenly. Indicate till all 4 wheels are in the other lane.
Left Turns - Angle the car before turning and stay in your lane. Must see 100meters on each side.
Right Turns - Find the center before turning, don't rush and don't cut the corners to turn. Don't move forward while other vehicles are still tuning right.
Center Mirror Usage - Check the center mirror every 10-15 seconds on a straight road. Check the mirror before braking.
Blindspot Checks - You must check your left blindspot when moving to the left and right blindspot when moving to the right. Turn your head 90 degrees to the left or right.
More Scanning / Searching Ahead - Activity search for potential hazards, try to see 100 meters on each side. Move your chin and move your head. Check all intersections. Don't lean forward while moving forward.
Dual lane Roundabout - Must give way to cars on your right. Angle the car to the left and look for cover vehicles on your left. Indicate left to exit. Stay in your lane.
Dual Lanes - You must stay in your lane. Don't have vehicles in your blindspot.
Flush Medians - You must use them and not interfere with traffic flow. Merge in and out when needed, and if safe just move through them. Be confident using them.
Narrow Roads - Look ahead, avoid bottlenecks, keep reasonable to the left and indicate to pass parked cars.
Bus Lanes / Cycle Lanes - Don't move into them too early, under 50 meters. Avoid stopping on them.

Immediate Fail:

Stop Sign - Stop, pause, check both sides and then move.
Speed Control - Don't rush and stay under the speed limit. (Downhill while changing lanes).
Right Turns - Find the center before turning, don't rush and don't cut the corners to turn. Dual lanes stay in your lane.
Dual lane Roundabout - Must give way to cars on your right. Angle the car to the left and look for cover vehicles on your left. Indicate left to exit. Stay in your lane.

Gap Selection - You must take the first available gap when safe.
Blindspot Checks - You must check your left blindspot when moving to the left and right blindspot when moving to the right.
Hand Position - Move your hands and make big turns when needed. Don't drop your hands when slowing down. turn the wheel back.
Motorway On/Off Ramps - Use all of the onramp and keep indicating till all 4 wheels are in the other lane. Offramp indicate before, check the center mirror and check your left blindspot before moving off the motorway. Don't brake for no reason.
Speed Control - Don't rush and stay under the speed limit.
