More Searching Required:
  • Check the left blind spot  before moving left to turn left (cycle and bus lanes).
  • Check your center mirror before braking (cars behind you).
  • Check your blind spot before merging or changing lanes (cars next to you)
  • All intersections, check both sides and behind before moving through.
  • Turn your head, don't twist your shoulders.

Steering / Hand Position:
  • Move your hands and make big turns when needed.
  • Keep the vehicle straight, make small adjustments to drive straight.
  • Keep both hands on the wheel and don't drop them when slowing down.

Following Distance & Stopping Distance:
  • Stay back when waiting in a queue.
  • Double your following distance when behind a truck or bus.
  • Double your following distance when driving on wet roads.

U Turns:
  • Indicate right and recheck your right blindspot for cars coming out of driveways.

Lanes:
  • When one lane splits into 2 lanes aim to be in the left lane, that is going straight.
  • Always know what is next to you (your blindspot).
  • Curved lanes and roads, you must stay in your lane.
  • Indicate till all 4 wheels are in the other lane.
  • Dual lane turns stay in your lane.

Turning Bays & Flush Medians:
  • Merge into them, nothing sudden.
  • Check blindspot before moving in.
  • Don't brake or slow down for no reason.
  • Use them when needed.

Curb-side / Parking on the side of the road:
  • You must be under 30cm from the curb.
  • Indicate and check your left blindspot before moving left.
  • Don't brake hard.
  • Know what is behind you.

Parallel Parking:
  • Indicate left before stopping.
  • Recheck the right sides, take your time and move.
  • Use the space behind you and be slow.
  • You have 2 minutes and you can go back and forth 4 times.

Turning:
  • Left turns angle the car with the road.
  • Right turns keep the car straight and find the center before turning.
  • Don't cut the corner. Stay on your side of the road.
  • Make big turns when needed and move your hands around when required don't keep them twisted when turning.
  • Don't lean forward while moving forward. If you can't see, stop and then edge forward or lean forward when the car is fully stopped.
  • Indicate before stopping.

Cross Roads:
  • You must check both sides, try to see at-least 100meters on both sides as you approach.
  • You must follow the Give Way Rule,  When moving through be slow enough to give way.

Narrow Roads:
  • Avoid bottlenecks, look ahead and adjust your speed.
  • Indicate right and check your right blindspot to pass parked cars. Indicate left and then check your left blindspot before moving back to the left.

Overseas Conversion Licence Notes

  1. Hand position - Don’t twist your hands when turning.
  2. More searching - recheck center mirror before braking. Check all side streets.
  3. Blindspot Checks - If moving left or right check next to you before moving.
  4. Braking and Speed control - cover your brake before braking, don’t brake hard.
  5. Lane changing and merging - nothing sudden.
  6. Curbside parking - must check left blindspot and vehicle must be under 30cm from the curb.
  7. Dual lane right turn - must stay in your lane. 
  8. Downhill speed control - cover your brake, stay under the speed limit.
  9. Trucks and Buses - Double your following and stopping distance.

Carpark:
  • Keep left and go slow
  • Stay on your side of the road. 

U Turns:
  • Indicate right, keep left and recheck your right blindspot for cars coming out of driveways.

Pulling over to stop next to curb:
  • You must indicate left and check your left blindspot.
  • The vehicle must be under 30cm from the curb.

Turn Left with care:
  • Be slow enough to give way
  • If you have your own lane you don't have to stop, but check for traffic as you approach.
