Key Areas to Focus On
- Curbside Parking
Indicate left and check your left blind spot before slowing down and stopping.
Park within 30 cm of the curb.
When moving out, indicate right, check your right blind spot, and merge safely into traffic. - Parallel Parking
Indicate left and check your centre mirror before stopping.
Check both sides before reversing and reverse smoothly into the space.
When moving out, indicate and recheck your right blind spot. - U-Turns & Three-Point Turns
Always indicate right and recheck your right blind spot before moving. - Turning (General)
Ensure you can see at least 100 metres in both directions before turning. - Right Turns
Move toward the centre of the road, stay on your side, and do not cut corners. - Left Turns
Always check the cycle lane and left blind spot before turning. Maintain good positioning throughout the turn. - Roundabouts
Angle the car correctly with the road and centre island. Use cover vehicles to help judge safe gaps. Always indicate left when exiting and remain aware of vehicles beside you. - Merging & Lane Changes
Indicate when required, check your centre mirror and blind spot, and avoid moving across if a vehicle is beside you. Make smooth, controlled movements. - Blind Spot / Head Checks
Always indicate and perform a clear blind spot check before lane changes, merging, or entering turning bays. Turn your head, not just your eyes. - Searching / Observation
Always know what is happening behind and beside you. Look ahead and off the road—aim to see at least 100 metres forward. - Narrow Roads
Keep left and indicate when passing parked cars. Maintain safe clearance and avoid bottlenecks. - Blind Corners & Sharp Turns
Slow down early, keep left, and be aware of oncoming vehicles. Drive to the road conditions. - Roadworks
When a 30 km/h roadworks sign is posted, slow down immediately and remain at 30 km/h until the end roadworks sign. - Following Distance
Maintain a safe following distance so you can see the ground behind the vehicle in front. - Hazard Identification
Identify and respond to all moving hazards--vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and animals. - Indicating
Keep indicating in turning bays. If the indicator cancels, indicate again.
