Searching / Observation
- Any time you receive an instruction, check your centre mirror and scan well ahead.
- Look off the road and check side streets before and after intersections.
- Always know what is happening behind and beside you.
- Aim to see at least 100 metres ahead whenever possible.
- Before moving out, recheck your right shoulder and blind spot for vehicles that may be overtaking.
- Take your time and keep searching throughout the manoeuvre.
- Always approach intersections prepared to stop.
- Decide early whether it is safe to proceed.
- If you cannot clearly see whether it is safe, treat the situation as unsafe and wait until you have a clear view.
- Avoid rushing into gaps—good decisions come from good observation.
